The first snow of the winter of 2010 – 2011 hit Leavenworth this afternoon. We were told to expect it at higher elevations, but we actually got snow downtown.

This is a good reminder to be prepared for winter driving for the next few months. Keep chains, a shovel, and a tow rope in your car. You never know when they might come in handy.

Winter Sign in Leavenworth

Within the city limits cars will need to be parked off of city streets at night so snow plows can keep them clear. If you park on the street at night you are likely to get a ticket or even get towed. Folks who live outside of the city limits should also be aware of how they park and how that effects the plows too.
The folks at LakeWenatcheeInfo.com have a good reminder about winter parking up at the lake:
“Every year there are the same reports of people parking on the traveled roadways of North Shore Drive, South Shore (Cedar Brae) and other roads….The sheriff WILL ticket vehicles parked in the roadways in ways that can impair passage of traffic and larger emergency vehicles. Providing for parking for yourself and your guests is part of being here in the winter so please don’t park in other peoples plowed areas or have the snow from your driveway dumped on your neighbors drive or property.”
